WV IrishRoadBowling Weblog

Welcome to the WV IrishRoadBowling Weblog!

Irish Road Bowling fanatics in many states have sent for Starter Packs through our online store.  In some states they have contacted each other to get a road bowl challenge started, but the WVIRB WEBLOG should make contacts easier. New Irish road bowling groups can communicate through the blog, to make arrangements for a showdown in the road. Who has the longest shot? We have active groups in Portland Oregon, Apopka Florida, Jefferson County New Jersey, near Chicago in Indiana, and many other places.

So – our WVIRB blog is a collaboration, a tool to connect with a nationwide network. It is new like everything connected with Irish road bowling, and we are learning as we go. The West Virginia Irish Road Bowling blog is for ladies and gentlemen, young and old, beginner, novice, junior, intermediate, senior, vintage, mountaineers and flatlanders, and everyone in between.

    Dear Fellow Roadbowlers,

We are excited to be launching our first blog for Irish road bowlers. You know who you are. What started as a crazy idea over ten years ago on a scenic country road in Ireland, West Virginia has grown to a larger populace across the country from coast to coast. This is truly amazing to me. It’s no longer a sport played only in the country of Ireland because it has expanded to Boston, New York and for the past 13 years played in West Virginia. We are now participating in 12 events at country fairs and festivals in 2008 including five West Virginia State Parks. It’s always fun and no experience is necessary.

We have had as many as 200 bowlers at one time (see I told you this is fun) with bowlers learning how to loft, trying to cut curves, retrieving lost bowls with a well-used metal detector, and generally keeping the bowl in the road. We have celebrated afterwards in picnics, cookouts, duck races, and pubs. If you have it rolling where you are, we would love to hear from you.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s fun, wacky and truly unique. What a great way to get some exercise, fresh air and take in the sites along a country road somewhere — anywhere! Any North Carolinians out there who would be willing to get road bowling rolling in the Research Triangle area (Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh) of North Carolina?
